In 1989, Ken Holmes formed Holmes Logging — a 6-man mechanised logging crew working in Kaingaroa Forest, which later included transport operations.

In 2006 Ken purchased Mike Lambert Ltd including Quality Marshalling (the latter was subsequently sold to the Port of Tauranga), creating Holmes Group.

Today, the Holmes Group includes Mike Lambert Ltd, Holmes Properties, Holmes Logging and Holmes Ventures.

Mike Lambert Ltd (MLL) has been in operation since 1961, providing cartage options for the forestry industry, including on-highway log trucks, and bin-wood trucks.

Holmes Group operations run Auckland North, throughout Northland.
